Heart Lake Old Growth

10am until noon
We have the best remaining stand of Puget trough lowland old growth forest right here on Fidalgo Island in the heart of our community forest. Come along and experience the big old trees.
Meet at the base of Mount Erie on Ray Auld Drive.
ALL AGES HIKES - Great for families and folks of all ages, these are hearty hikes with forest lore suited to the day's participants
Mitten Pond Loop
Saturday, September 11th
10am until noon
Summer isn’t over yet! The cool smell of water floats up the path as we near Mitten Pond. Whirligig beetles spin shining patterns in the glowing green duckweed. Dragonflies drift and zoom around us. Sound good? Please come along! Meet at the ACFL kiosk on A Ave. and 37th.

Please be aware of owls when you are in the woods!
We recently received a report about a man, jogging in the evening on Trail 27 near Whistle
Lake, struck in the head by an owl. The man was not injured but quite shaken up by the incident.
About the Friends
The Friends of the Forest is a non-profit citizens organization dedicated to the preservation of the ACFL through education, outreach, and stewardship. We first formed in 1986 to "preserve, protect, and enjoy" our community forest. Our group was instrumental in the successful effort to halt revenue logging in the ACFL, and essential to the creation and promotion of a system to provide long term legal preservation of the forest. We welcome all who share in our mission.
